Sammy Frichter, Jr.

Sammy Frichter, Jr. is the son of the St. Bernard Parish Recreation Department founding father, the late Sammy Frichter, Sr. He is also the brother of our Sports Hall of Fame president, Dr. Bryan P. Frichter. After a stellar high school baseball career at Chalmette and making his impact on the college level at the University of Southern Mississippi as the leading hitter as a sophomore and senior, Frichter was bitten by the coaching bug. At Wallace Community College in Dothan, Alabama, he carved out an outstanding career while molding his players to become major college players, major leaguers, minor leaguers, college and high school coaches. In his 17 year career at Wallace, Frichter’s teams won 482 games and six conference championships. He continued his coaching at the high school, American Legion, AAU, Best-Best and Dizzy Dean levels. After 38 years, Sammy Frichter, Jr. is still coaching baseball as well as directing baseball academies and schools.
